Maceo Plex & Jon Dasilva - Love Somebody Else

Release date: September 24th, 2012. Ellum Audio

A special tribute edition of Ellum Audio comes courtesy of Maceo Plex & Jon Dasilva, who bring back a pair of bygone musical gems with their own modern interpretations. Featuring an astonishing guest appearance by house vocal sensation Joi Cardwell, Ellum delivers a late summer anthem with ‘Love Somebody Else’.

For the A-side Eric Estornel aka Maceo Plex revives an unreleased Jon Dasilva remix of Colourblind’s cover of 1979 Jones Girls disco classic ‘You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else’. Having loved the remix, lost in the heady days of the early 90s, Eric orchestrated a studio session with legendary hacienda DJ Jon Dasilva to make a new version of the track, also managing to track down the cover’s classic house singer Joi Cardwell to lay down fresh vocals. Irresistibly warm, smooth and groovy, ‘Love Somebody Else’ is quite simply massive.

On the flip, Maceo Plex goes it alone and delivers ‘Future Musik’ - homage to an old favourite Closer Musik track that never did see an official release. Chilean/German duo Closer Musik (Dirk Leyers & Matias Aguayo) released a number of shimmering slices of electronica around a decade ago on the mythical Kompakt Recordings and Maceo Plex’s re-imagining of their untitled work employs rich layers of molten pads and laid-back hats until a powerful bassline cuts through the calm and Maceo’s rippling vocals work their magic.

Redesigning every sound and melody across the release Maceo Plex on Ellum Audio once again shows an ambitious flair for fusing retro passions with pure originality.
