Piemont AKA Frederic Möring-Sack and Christian de Jonquieres (sound design students who have also worked as Phunklarique and Dejonka) have been making electronic music for years. Their records to date have found their way into the record bags of DJs like Richie Hatwin, Dubfire and Carl Cox, probably because of the large array of influences that permeate the German pair's work. Now they return on their own Terminal M with 'Viewstar' - a new EP backed with great remixes from MadSkillz and Sian.
As usual, it's intricate and organic tech house that defines the EP, with opener 'Viewstar' built up in layers of percussion. A thumping kick drum ties everything from spangled synths to odd bird noises together where 'Four to Five' is a little slinkier and more streamlined in it's tribal drums and oppressive atmospheres.
MadSkillz's remix of 'Viewstar' is wonky, riding up and down as rolling synths flesh out the background where muted, dark voices lurk. Finally, Sian tackles the same track and takes it deep down into pulsing tech house territory. It's moody and metallic, gliding from beat to beat with a sullen sense of late night energy.
All in all, another sure fire winner from the house of Piemont!
