528 Ibiza puts live electronic music in the spotlight

Ibiza has long been associated with the DJ as the central figure of electronic music culture. But this summer, the island’s musical landscape is making room for a different kind of performance, one where live instrumentation, vocals and electronic production come together in a concert-oriented format. Between Worlds, the collaboration between The Gardens of Babylon and Brunch Electronik, is putting live electronic music at the centre of its August programme, with two upcoming dates at 528 Ibiza.

The next appointments, on August 23 and 30, bring together four artists and projects known for challenging the traditional boundaries between club music and live performance, offering an alternative to the classic megaclub format.

Bob Moses and Henrik Schwarz: two approaches to the live format

On August 23, the programme features Bob Moses, the Grammy-winning Canadian duo formed by Tom Howie and Jimmy Vallance. Their music has consistently moved between indie rock, melodic electronic music and club-oriented production, with live vocals and instrumentation remaining a key part of their identity. Their breakthrough came with “Tearing Me Up”, from their 2015 debut album “Days Gone By”, which earned them a Grammy for Best Remixed Recording for RAC’s version of the track. They share the bill with Henrik Schwarz (Live), one of the most respected figures in the intersection between house, techno, jazz and experimental electronic music. Rather than reproducing a DJ set in a concert setting, Schwarz has developed a live format based on improvisation, hardware and real-time manipulation of sound. His work has appeared on labels including Innervisions, and his collaborations with orchestras and other musicians have further expanded his approach to electronic performance.

WhoMadeWho bring their hybrid sound to 528 Ibiza

The second date, on August 30, puts the focus on WhoMadeWho (Hybrid Set). The Copenhagen trio of Tomas Høffding, Tomas Barfod and Jeppe Kjellberg have spent more than two decades developing a sound that moves between indie dance, electronic pop and club music, while their live shows place equal emphasis on musicianship and electronic production. Their hybrid format reflects that crossover, combining the energy of a live band with the flexibility of a club-oriented electronic set. It is a formula that has made WhoMadeWho a regular presence at festivals and electronic music events around the world, as well as a natural fit for a programme built around the meeting point between concert and club culture.

The two August dates therefore also reflect a broader evolution in Ibiza’s electronic music culture. DJs remain at the heart of the island’s nightlife, but live electronic acts are increasingly becoming part of the conversation, bringing a more performance-driven dimension to the club landscape.

With Bob Moses and Henrik Schwarz on August 23, followed by WhoMadeWho on August 30, Between Worlds is using its August programme to explore precisely that space between the club and the concert stage.
