Burning Man: HBO's New docuseries is coming

HBO turns the spotlight on Burning Man, one of the world's most iconic cultural events, with The Man Will Burn, a new four-part HBO Original docuseries premiering on Thursday, July 9, 2026, on HBO and streaming on HBO Max. It's the perfect way to get ready for this year's edition of Burning Man, scheduled to take place from Sunday, August 30, through Monday, September 7.

Directed by Jehane Noujaim and Vikram Gandhi, the series offers unprecedented access to the Burning Man Project, taking viewers behind the scenes to explore the origins, evolution, and transformation of the legendary gathering that brings Nevada's Black Rock Desert to life each year. Through archival footage and exclusive interviews, the documentary traces Burning Man's journey from its countercultural beginnings on a San Francisco beach in 1986 to the global phenomenon it is today, attracting tens of thousands of participants with its unique blend of large-scale art installations, performances, music, and radical creative expression.

The series also chronicles one of the most challenging periods in Burning Man's history, examining the impact of the pandemic, the rise of unofficial gatherings, organizational struggles, and the ongoing debate over the growing influence of technology and social media within the community. Premiering at the 2026 Tribeca Festival, The Man Will Burn promises an unprecedented look at an event that continues to redefine what a festival can be through the intersection of art, music, and culture.
