Matthias Tanzmann Celebrates 25 Years of Moon Harbour with ‘Best Of’ Series and New Single ‘Friday High’

A quarter-century after its inception, Moon Harbour is marking its enduring influence on the global underground with the release of a three-part ‘best of’ compilation. Titled Moon Harbour 2000-2025 1/3, the compilation as well as the two instalments that are to follow celebrate the artists and records that have defined its sound since 2000.

Founded in Leipzig by Matthias Tanzmann, the label has become synonymous with forward-thinking tech house, consistently setting the pace for a genre that has evolved from niche European clubs into a worldwide movement. Across hundreds of releases, Moon Harbour has built a reputation for balancing innovation with dancefloor functionality, platforming both emerging talent and established names.

Each instalment of the anniversary series features ten carefully selected tracks, spotlighting key contributors to the label’s legacy. Among them are artists such as Re.You, Butch, Audio Werner, CamelPhat, Adam Port, Black Circle, Ninetoes, Sven Tasnadi, Marco Faraone and Dennis Ferrer, alongside Tanzmann himself. The curated selection underscores the label’s role in shaping a distinct sonic identity while remaining adaptable to shifting club cultures.

The featured tracklist reflects this breadth, from Sabb’s One Of Us (remixed by Ferrer) and Strange Neighbors by Arado and Faraone, to enduring cuts like Bonita from Ninetoes and Aftermath by Tanzmann and Black Circle. Elsewhere, contributions from Samim, ONNO and collaborations such as Re.You with Lazarusman further capture the label’s wide-reaching aesthetic.

The anniversary project arrives alongside new material from Tanzmann himself.

Returning to solo production after a series of collaborations with Steve Bug, Daniel Stefanik and Black Circle, he unveils Friday High, a track poised to become a staple of the summer season. With its subtle nods to 90s house - from dubby, fluid basslines to shimmering synths, dusty percussion and warm, rolling grooves - the release channels both nostalgia and contemporary energy.

More than 25 years since launching Moon Harbour, Tanzmann continues to refine his craft while maintaining a clear connection to the dancefloor. Both the retrospective compilation and Friday High serve as reminders of a career — and a label — that have not only witnessed the evolution of tech house, but actively shaped it.
